A bus terminus bill... but no bus terminus

PARISH councillors who have been campaigning for work to start on a promised project for six months have been sent a £2,000 bill for the job - even though it has not started.Kewstoke Parish Council chairman Tony Morris says instead of getting a letter saying when work would start on the bus terminus in the village the parish council and the local action team have each been sent invoices by North Somerset Council for £1,000.Cllr Morris said: "At a meeting of North Somerset Council's south area committee Cllr John Crockford-Hawley promised us we would have a letter by the following Monday's parish council meeting to say when work would start but once again we have heard nothing."We were also told the amount we would have to put towards it might be reduced. But we have had an invoice for the full amount. Residents have given up hope that anything will happen."Parish councillors say they were originally promised work would start by the end of March, which then became May. The car park in Beach Road has been the source of continued problems in the village with villagers raising concerns over antisocial behaviour. In June, a North Somerset spokesman told the Weston & Somerset Mercury that there had been delays with the project due to other priorities but they hoped to have the work done within a couple of months. This week a North Somerset Council spokesman said: "Kewstoke's clerk suggested the invoices were sent. "Gates and boulders have been ordered and work should be completed by end of January. "A height barrier will be erected, the turning circle will be separated from the car park by boulders and an enhanced recycling area will be built. There will also be a general clear-up of vegetation."Kewstoke Parish Council's clerk, Colin Hill, has denied that he asked North Somerset Council to send the invoices.
