ONE family in North Somerset had a special reason to be over the moon when Connie won hit BBC show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?Margaret Cole was making sure all her friends and neighbours in Yatton voted for 23-year-old Connie Fisher, who is her great niece.Millions of people across the country tuned in to the show on Saturday to vote for who they wanted to take to the stage in Andrew Lloyd-Webber's West End musical The Sound of Music. Margaret, of Mendip Road, said the Fisher family is an old Weston family with over 80 years of history in the town. The 73-year-old said: "Connie's grandfather, Reggie Fisher, was in the choir at the parish church of St John the Baptist Church, along with his brothers."Reggie was always asked to do the solos because he had the best voice and Connie's obviously inherited it."I only wish he was alive now to see her doing so well, he would have been so proud of her."He died at the age of 88 and Connie sang a lovely classical piece at Reggie's funeral two years ago. She came to Weston when she was little and was shown where her family came from and where her grandfather was born."During the show I was telling everyone to vote for her and have had nothing but phone calls since she won."I thought that her last performance was brilliant and Andrew Lloyd-Webber obviously agreed because he punched the air."Connie's dad, Michael, is one of Margaret's 10 nephews and nieces. Their family now lives in Pembrokeshire.Connie is an only child and was classically trained from the age of 12 and then won a full scholarship to Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. She left with first class honours and won a prize for the highest score in her degree. She was also a member of the National Youth Theatre during her teen years and appeared on Jane McDonald's Star for a Night when she was 16.
