A PAIR of shoes brought a Weston couple together and now they have been married 60 years.
Laura Main, of Stanley Grove, met her husband Melville after her father repaired his shoes when they lived in Hampshire.
The 81-year-old said: “I told my dad the shoes he was repairing were more like canoes as they were a size 11.
“Then when I was in the mess one day I looked down and saw the shoes and that’s what first got me chatting to Melville.”
The couple, who went on to have three children, Richard, Muriel and Stephen, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, moved to Weston together in the 1950s.
Laura added: “We’ve had our ups and downs, but it’s my husband’s sense of humour that has got us through.”
Laura and 80-year-old Melville received a letter from the Queen on their diamond wedding anniversary and celebrated the occasion having a meal with their family.
