THE works of a Weston author who wrote more than 100 books before she died have been given to a club in the area to put to good use.

Jean Saunders, who died in August at the age of 79, wrote for children’s magazines, creating crosswords and riddle and word puzzles and then small articles that would appeal to youngsters’ imaginations.

Before marriage and having children Jean worked for the Medical Research Council and helped analyse the components of early antibiotics such as penicillin and streptomycin.

More recently Jean travelled, with husband Geoff, on numerous cruise ships, where she delivered lectures and workshops on all aspects of writing.

In May this year, returning from the most recent cruise, Jean became unwell and this led to her death on August 3.

Geoff and daughter Janet Underhay presented the books to Wordsmiths of Weston last week.
