Abseil for charity

WHILE not for the faint-hearted, volunteers are being asked to abseil 60m down a Mendip quarry.

Diabetes UK is holding a charity day this month in a bid to raise funds to help support 13,000 people in North Somerset who suffer with the illness.

Frances Collier, Diabetes UK South West fundraising manager, said: “This is an exciting event taking place in beautiful countryside and is perfect for anyone who fancies a challenge.

“The money raised will support the work of Diabetes UK to care for and campaign on behalf of all people with the condition.

“Diabetes is one of the biggest health challenges in the UK, with one person diagnosed every three minutes.”

Sandford Quarry will hold the event on September 29 at 11am. Registration will open 30 minutes before and entry costs £20 with money going to the charity.

For more information or to register in advance email south.west@diabetes.org.uk or call 01823 448260. The abseil is open to people aged 14 or over.
