Motorway accident causes hour-long delays

Two lanes on the M5 have been closed this afternoon (Friday) after an accident between three vehicles.

There are severe delays and queuing traffic on the M5 northbound following a crash between junction 21 (Weston-super-Mare) and junction 20 (Clevedon).

All three lanes were briefly closed before the inside lane was re-opened at 1.10pm.

A second accident occurred within the queuing traffic but this has now been cleared.

Highways England is expecting delays of up to an hour with normal conditions returning by 2.30pm.

Drivers travelling southbound between junction 18 (Avonmouth) and junction 20 can also expect delays of up to 30 minutes due to congestion.

***UPDATE 14.44pm: There are still significant delays on the motorway and Weston is now experiencing delays on the A370 between Yatton and Worle.***
