AN ACCOUNTANT who stole more than £183,000 from a 91-year-old woman has been jailed.
Paul Willis, aged 51, of Old Banwell Road, Locking, pleaded guilty to theft in a position of trust. He had been awarded power of attorney over the estate of Margaret Nunn, of Winscombe Hall care home, in Winscombe Hill. Margaret was a family friend who he offered his accountancy services to as a client.
Willis used her money to pay off credit card debts and fund a lavish lifestyle, the court heard, stealing £183,671 from her assets.
Mrs Nunn was 91 when she died, and she left Willis £10,000 in her will.
He was rumbled when Mrs Nunn’s adopted daughter Valerie Bedecker flew to the UK to find out about her inheritance and was told there was no money for her. She then informed the police.
Willis was sentenced to 38 months in prison when he appeared at Bristol Crown Court on August 29.
