SUSPECTED drug addicts have been intimidating Weston residents in some of the town's major shopping and recreation areas.Security staff at Tesco in Station Road claim they often have to ensure staff leaving the store late at night get to their cars safely without being hassled by addicts. They say drug users regularly gather on the grass areas in between Alexandra Parade and Regent Street opposite Tesco, as well as congregating around the flowerbeds along the side of the store near the staff entrance and the Odeon.Clive Williams, a security guard from Tesco, said: "There are normally about four-five people there. They come into Tesco and buy foil then hang around outside using drugs."We often have to make sure staff get out OK when they finish work. I think it's a very big problem in Weston. They're quite intimidating. I've seen them out there five or six times in the last couple of months."The store closes its customer toilets at 7.30pm to ensure drug users do not use the facilities due to previous problems. And suspected addicts set up camp near the store from about 10.30pm. Tesco closes at midnight and when staff leave the store, the security staff stand guard at the door to ensure employees get to their cars.* Heroin needles were found just yards away from a park used by children in Summerlands Road, Milton.Inspector Yan Georgiou, who is based at Weston Police Station, said: "It's not been reported but I will make the town centre team aware of it. You get this happening all over the place, but it's unacceptable."There are users that live in this town, and some dump what they use. I'm not surprised, but I'm concerned about it.
