A CONTROVERSIAL airport parking scheme has been refused planning permission.

Bristol Park and Fly has been operating from Monaghan's Mushroom Farm, in Stock Lane in Langford, for months without a licence.

An application for the change of use from a compost yard to an airport parking area was made in June, but on October 3 the application was refused by North Somerset Council planning officers.

Churchill and Langford parish councillor, Jackie Bush, said she thinks it is the right decision.

She was recently featured in the Weston & Somerset Mercury concerning the numerous occasions that cars had been turning up at her house thinking it was the site of Bristol Park and Fly.

She said: "Hopefully this refusal will mean a reduction in traffic along Stock Lane, which definitely increased when they started operating the parking service.

"I know that other people in the village are very pleased about the decision, but they have also said they will not stop campaigning against the company as they think the refusal will probably be appealed."

Steven Merry, managing director of Bristol Park and Fly, declined to comment after only learning of the decision when contacted by the Weston & Somerset Mercury.
