COMPETITORS from around the country flocked to the old airfield in Weston for the final round of the Southern Counties Autocross Championship.
Despite the poor weather, 35 took part in Sunday’s event at the 1km track created especially on the field for the first time.
In the early practice runs Weston Motor Club member Chris Butler, from Locking, set the fastest time.
When the official four-lap timed runs started an Oxford driver took first place although several local drivers excelled with Gareth Wilcox, in a Honda Civic, and Richard Davies, in a Nissan Almera, finishing 10th and 11th.
Tim Walton, the championship co-ordinator, said it was a good day’s racing and thanked North Somerset Council for granting permission to use the old airfield.
