A WRINGTON businessman has said Bristol International Airport's (BIA) expansion plans will mean the 'end of countryside life'.Phil Haughton, who owns the Walled Garden market garden and cafe in Long Lane, has said the plans for extra flights and extended car parks will cause noise, traffic and light pollution and the heart of the Wrington community will be lost.Phil said: "This threatens to completely destroy our quality of life. The rural tranquility will be wiped out by constant roadworks and commuter traffic and will blend our villages into one urban sprawl."He feels people from the Wrington and Lulsgate areas will lose the benefits of rural life if the countryside gets paved over with the airport's plans to build extra car parks. Campaigners are already fighting the airport's expansion plans which could increase passengers from six million to nine million a year by 2015.The airport's master plan, which outlines how the site will expand, has been submitted to North Somerset Council for planning permission.Residents have until December 22 to comment on the application. Write to: Kate Durston, Development Control, North Somerset Council, Somerset House, Oxford Street, Weston-super-Mare, BS23 1TG.The plans are due to go before the council's strategic planning and economic development panel on December 20 and the final decision will be made by the planning and regulatory committee on January 18.
