TWO North Somerset schemes have been commended for their work by the Government

TWO initiatives working to stamp out drug and alcohol problems in North Somerset have been praised by Government reports.

These were Weston's Streetsafe bus and the work carried out for Operation Jupiter, by North Somerset Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership and Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

The Streetsafe bus, which operates in Weston town centre at night, was praised for acting as a safe recovery spot for people who have drunk too much and also a meeting place for separated friends.

Operation Jupiter, which looked at public concern about poor quality housing and the referral of people to drug and alcohol rehabilitation, was commended for its work, which led to the demand on local and emergency services dropping by a third, and to a six per cent reduction in crime.
