A CAMPAIGN to encourage people to drink responsibly has been launched by North Somerset Crime Reduction Partnership.

It will encourage young people in the area to keep an eye out for their friends while on a night out and will be called Who's Your Mate?

An alcohol-free cocktail night at the Winter Gardens in Weston will be held on March 29 to find the best drinks mix in North Somerset to mark the launch.

The campaign has been organised with the help of a group of young clubbers in Weston and the event is part of a series of projects run by the unitary authority, police, fire and health services.

The cocktail competition will offer prizes to winning bartenders, judged by North Somerset businessmen, with a men's and women's choice.

Anyone wanting to take part needs to enter by February 29. A supply of non-alcoholic ingredients, mixing equipment and a bartender are all that will be needed at the event, which will run from 6pm-midnight. A live band will also be playing.
