AN alcohol exclusion zone has been created near shops on a Weston housing estate to stop drunk teenagers causing havoc. The zone prevents people drinking around the shops in Aller Parade on the Oldmixon estate.Traders have had problems with youths drinking, causing damage to their shops and intimidating people.Paul Massam, who runs Noah's Ark pet shop, said traders were fed up with teenagers drinking and acting antisocially outside their shops. He said: "All the shopkeepers get trouble with kids kicking balls against windows and hanging around drinking."We're glad the alcohol-free zone has been put in but we need it enforced by the police now."North Somerset Councillor Ian Parker says the police do not enforce the zone on the Bournville estate around St Andrew's Parade. He said: "If these zones are not policed properly then they're not worth having."I see youths drinking in Coniston Green all the time and they shouldn't be."When I ring the police I'm unable to get through and nothing happens. These zones need to be policed."Sgt Gareth Starr said officers would be clamping down on people drinking in the zones. He said: "We do patrol the area, but if we're not informed of people drinking then we can't do anything. People need to make us aware of the issues and we can start to tackle the problems.
