A healthcare watchdog has praised a Weston-super-Mare nursing home for its 'encouraging' and 'caring' approach.

Alice House, in Queens Road, was found to be caring, safe, effective and responsive by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) but was told it must improve how it is led.

The report says: “Staff supported people in a respectful, kind and caring way and involved them as much as possible in day-to-day choices and arrangements.

“We observed that staff had good relationships with residents and demonstrated empathy and an understanding of people’s support needs and challenges.

“We saw that people were encouraged to remain independent.

“Where people required specialist equipment to move, staff reassured the person and talked them through the procedure.”

The home fell on how it was led, as the CQC found it had not been informed about certain incidents and events.
