A HOARDER has been given an extra month to clear up a mountain of rubbish and junk on a field in Stone Allerton.

In May, Sedgemoor District Council ordered the owner of the field to clear up the piles of rubbish, burnt out caravans and rusty cars which have littered Stone Allerton Moor for more than three years.

The owner was given until the end of September to clear it up, but he has still not emptied the field.

A council spokesman said: "He has tidied up the site considerably. He's got rid of a lot of rubbish, although there are still a couple of caravans there and he also has two tents in the field.

"We are now working with him and monitoring the site. We will check on the field in a month's time to see what progress has been made."

A number of residents had complained about the litter which was clogging up a beauty spot and attracting rats.

The man responsible for the mountain of litter is believed to live in an igloo made of rubbish in the middle of the field.

Gerald Prince, Chapel Allerton Parish Council's clerk, said: "We've been waiting for over three years for something to be done so it's good that things are improving. We just hope it will be sorted out soon.
