A WOMAN from Bleadon is taking part in a triathlon to recognise a milestone 20 years since her friend's cancer diagnosis.
Alli Perry, aged 49, is joining her friend Jan Cromey and her sisters Julie and Lynne at a Triathlon Pink event to be held in Bath.
Jan was diagnosed with breast cancer 20 years ago when she was aged 28, and said Alli was always on the end of the phone throughout her treatment.
Alli said: “My main reason for doing this is to celebrate the fact of Jan being 20 years post her breast cancer. It’s amazing and worth celebrating.
“Jan is made of strong stuff and I think of her as the sister I never had and strongly believe we will always be there for each other.”
The triathlon raises money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Alli said she was least looking forward to the cycling aspect of the triathlon, especially as her old bike needed to be fixed.
She said: “I’m not keen on exercise so I’m looking forward to the celebrations afterwards.
“Jan has done some fundraising events before, but this is the first time I’ve taken part.”
