WANNABE gardeners in Churchill will be pleased to hear that progress is being made towards securing allotments for the village.

The site in question is in Pudding Pie Lane near the Jubilee Lane end and at present is part of Churchill Park Farm, owned by North Somerset Council.

In a 42,000 deal with the unitary authority, Churchill Parish Council has asked to buy two of the fields which in total is just under four acres.

A spokesman from the parish council said: “We have secured the land and have been to the bank to arrange the loan but we have not completed the deal.

“We need to first ensure that we will be granted planning permission for sheds and car parking.”

The parish council now plans to submit a planning application for the plots and once and if this is approved the deal will be made.

The village has no other allotments and there is 35 names on the waiting list.

If there are no hold ups the council hopes that some crops will be harvested by next summer.
