THE owner of a Weston firm wants to buy up part of a sports field or some allotment land to expand his waste management and plant hire business.Andy Towens, the managing director of Towens Waste Management, Towens of Weston and Towens Remediation, has asked Weston Town Council to sell him some of the Hutton Moor allotment land, which is at the rear of his businesses in Warne Road. This week company secretary Graham Carrington said the company would also like to buy up part of Hutton Moor sports ground. He said: "Lots more commercial waste recycling should be done so we would like to talk to North Somerset Council about using sports centre land that it owns. I can confirm we have also asked the town council for allotment land."Towens has bought allotment land from the town council twice before and the council had to seek planning permission on behalf of the company before a deal was struck. If the sale was to go ahead any of the three Towens branches could move onto the site including the new Towens Remediation, which deals with the de-contamination of brownfield sites.
