A very fit and active retired nurse will celebrate her 100th birthday and her ‘interesting life’ on May 5.

Margaret Dodds moved to North Somerset in 1967 and worked as a nurse at Churchill Nursing Home until she retired at 81.

Margaret had previously worked as a Royal Air Forces and Navy nurse officer on-board the HMS Strathmore – where she travelled to Bombay and Australia.

On-board she met her
husband John. The pair married in London and moved to India, where they lived for 25 years. Together they had three children; Nicholas, Jane and Peter.

Up until her 90s, Margaret could be spotted on her bike around Weston and still attends keep fit classes at Plummley Court, in Clarence Road South.

Her daughter Jane Lamb, aged 64, said: “Mum has had a very vast and interesting life.

“She still remains very fit and has a season ticket for Bristol City Football Club, and goes to all of their home games.”
