A £5MILLION plan to regenerate Burnham and Highbridge has been officially unveiled. Urban regeneration officer Cheeren Jones presented the proposal to Sedgemoor District Council, revealing ambitious plans for the South Esplanade, Princess Street, Burnham High Street and the seafront. Cheeren said: "The proposal shows ways in which some regeneration projects can be brought forward. These aren't detailed plans for the towns, but an idea of projects that could happen in the future."Basically they outline a list of priorities for Burnham."The proposal includes a development for Burnham's South Esplanade which according to the proposal 'has the potential to become a wonderful linear park'. 'The existing area is dominated by wide tarmac areas, heavy concrete structures and walls and a wide road. "This could be transformed into a stunning park which draws the natural landscape into the town and re-establish the link between the town and its natural setting.'As well as timber decking, the Esplanade proposal includes a skate bowl, benches, parking facilities and plants. It is hoped the park will eventually be of national significance.
