AMBULANCES in Weston will soon be catering for heavier patients.
Great Western Ambulance Service, which covers Weston and North Somerset, is buying three 'bariatric' vehicles which will be on the road next summer.
The vehicles, each costing around £100,000, will be longer and wider than ambulances currently used by the service.
Each will have a tail lift capable of carrying a patient up to 400kgs, or roughly the weight of three front row rugby forwards.
A service spokesman said: "These will help us treat and transport these patients with dignity.
