THE Mayor of Weston was given a surprise trip on the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity (GWAAC) helicopter during his visit to the air base.

Cllr Cyril King has been raising money for GWAAC all year and was invited to see the crew in action.

Great Western Air Ambulance charity raise money to pay for Weston and the region’s 999 response helicopter.

GWAAC chief executive John Christensen offered Cllr King and the Mayoress, Sue King, a short ride on the aircraft at the end of their visit to the base in Filton.

Cllr King said: “It was an honour and a privilege to go up in the aircraft.

“People don’t realise the charity network required to keep something like this going. It’s a charity which should be well supported.”
