Ancient church bells rehung

PUBLISHED: 15:00 25 January 2011

CHURCH campanologists in Hutton are celebrating the home-coming of their restored bells.

Members of St Mary’s Church sent off all five of the church’s bells for retuning and paid for one more following the launch of a fund-raising campaign in September 2009.

Last week, a dedication service was held to mark the return and hanging up of the bells following restoration.

As part of the work the tower clock was also removed and returned with an electrically-driven winding mechanism.

Tower captain Margaret Bailey used the service to thank all those who helped raise money for the project.

After the service many visiting bell ringers were given the chance to ring before a celebratory lunch was held at the village primary school.
