AN ANCIENT ceremonial cloak found in the bottom of an old chest in Allerton Church is hoped to be the key attraction in Somerset County Museum's new display.
The cope, which dates back to the 15th century, was found in the chest in 1858.
It was donated to the county museum in Taunton later that year and is now the oldest piece of textile on display.
However, the ancient robe has become faded over time and Allerton residents are hoping to restore it to its former glory so it can take pride of place in the museum.
