A NATIONAL conference about bullying is to be held in Weston.More than 450 teenagers, youth workers and teachers are expected to attend the Anti-Bullying Conference at the Winter Gardens on November 20 and 21.Celebrities and a cabinet minister are being lined up to speak at the national event.It is the first time the conference has been held outside of London since it started in 2003.Music, shows, films, exhibitions, kickboxing and talks from experts will feature at the event.Youth organiser Andy Hickson, who runs his own company specialising in bullying issues, said the conference would benefit the town.Andy, of Celtic Way, Bleadon, said: "We were looking to move the conference and I really pushed for it to be brought to Weston."The conference is a positive event that celebrates innovative youth projects that tackle bullying."Experts and youth groups from across the country will be coming to network on ways to deal with the problem."Agencies such as the police and council will also be there to show the public how they approach the subject."North Somerset Council's teaching and learning advisor, Sue Walker, said: "We are pleased the organisers have chosen Weston."Our youngsters will be able to showcase what they do well and pick up ideas from other youth groups."Pupils in schools across North Somerset are being invited to design an A2 size poster advertising the conference.The four finalists will win £50 in music tokens and will have their work exhibited at the event.Designs should be sent to Andy Hickson, Actionwork, PO Box 433, Weston-super-Mare, BS24 0WY by May 24.For more details ring 01934 815163 or visit www.bully.org
