THE former manager of Weston's Playhouse theatre is returning to the role after seven years away from the job.

Andrew Jeffrey used to work for the Winter Gardens, but left following a series of changes by the council, which owns the two venues.

This year Winter Gardens managing director Ian Woodward - with bosses at Parkwood Leisure, the firm which runs the buildings - decided it was time to create a new role and Mr Jeffrey said he was eager to return.

After being successful in his interview, Mr Jeffrey joined the management team on August 19.

He said: “I am delighted to return to The Playhouse after several years away. I enjoyed 14 very special years here as front-of-house manager, and programming and marketing manager.

“To have the opportunity to return as theatre manager is really exciting. I am looking forward to working closely with the theatre staff, the Friends of the Playhouse and the local community.”

Mr Woodward said: “He is known to the theatre and by the staff, and he brings with him a wealth of experience, so it was an ideal opportunity for him to come home.

“He has been in a variety of positions at The Playhouse and has been working in many theatres. Parkwood wanted to grow the theatre and we decided it would be best to have a manager there to drive the theatre forward.

“Although the position was dissolved years ago, Parkwood recognise the need to reinstate it. We are pleased to have him on board.”
