MYSTERY surrounds the disappearance of 300 little yellow ducks from Uphill ahead an annual charity duck race.
Organisers are unsure where the little plastic birds used for the Great Uphill Charity duck race have gone.
The event has been on the village calendar for eight years and takes place each July.
The 300 ducks, which are numbered, float down river to the finishing line at Uphill Wharf.
Stewart Castle, Uphill Society chairman, discovered the ducks had gone when he went to fetch them from the storage cupboard ahead of the event next weekend.
He said: “We decided that we would need some more ducks.
“So I came to find them from their roosting place in the shed at the back of the Victory Hall.
“They might have flown the coop or they have been misplaced, or they have been thrown out.
“I don’t think they have been stolen.”
New ducks have been bought ahead of the race this weekend which is taking place from the bridge at Old Church Road at 11am on July 17.
