A PLANNING application to build a cemetery on allotments in Yatton has been submitted to North Somerset Council.
The proposed site is located south of Mendip Road and would allow for the creation of about 1,750 adult graves. Provision for some allotments would still be maintained.
The application was submitted by Yatton Parish Council, which maintains a cemetery behind St Mary’s Church which is accessed from Rectory Way.
The application’s design and access statement said: “The cemetery has met local need for the burial of the dead for many years, but space for new graves is low and is likely to be used up within two years.
“There is a clear need for a new cemetery to meet continued burial needs.”
