A FARMER is hoping to save money on his power bills by building a 17.5m high wind turbine on land in Winscombe.

David Avery, of Oakridge Lane, has submitted a planning application to North Somerset Council for the wind harnessing system.

In a supporting document, the turbine is described as having three blades and quiet when operating.

It is the second which could be installed in the village after a 13m high turbine was installed at Winscombe Primary School last year.

The system, which was officially opened by Weston MP John Penrose, is thought to save the school £800 a year on power bills.

A resident’s bid for two more turbines in the village was turned down after planners judged the blades as dangerous to the nearby bat population.

A decision on the planning application for a wind turbine in Oakridge Lane is expected by December 23.
