Weston Hospicecare is set to benefit from some much-needed funds once supporter Anthony Phippard completes four gruelling challenges in aid of the charity.

Anthony has already taken part in the Brighton half-marathon in aid of the hospice, which took place on February 28.

He will also complete the Brighton Marathon on April 17, part of the London to Brighton Challenge across the May bank holiday weekend on May 1-2 and a 56-mile trek and jog across Iceland during two days in July.

Anthony was inspired to raise money for the hospice after it cared for his mother-in-law Therese Leigh when she died from cancer last year.

He said: “Weston Hospicecare provided so much help to Therese’s family with the offer of home care, counselling to her husband Peter and, when the time was right, help from within the hospice too.

“I don’t know how these small but essential charities manage it in such challenging financial times.

“My wife Helen and the whole family are so very grateful to the hospice.”

Anthony’s Icelandic expedition will see him take on mountains, ice, lava fields, volcanic rock and scree. He will also be sleeping under canvas for the duration of the challenge.

He said: “I will be jogging, trekking and scrambling over a double marathon distance of 52 miles on the Laugavegurinn trail in just two days.

“That’s two marathons in two days.

“Even though this is supposed to be a summer challenge, the essential kit list provided by the organisers makes it feel like I’m off to the deep Arctic in winter.”
