A FATHER is furious after a teacher at a Weston school forced his son to walk around in his socks after he forgot his shoes.Anthony Scannell was made to spend the day without his shoes when he turned up at Wyvern Community School wearing black trainers. The 14-year-old left his shoes in his step dad's car after football practice the night before and had to wear his trainers to school because he did not have any other black shoes. He explained the situation to head of year Matthew Lake, but was made to take off his trainers and not go out at break time.Anthony didn't want to go back to school after pupils ridiculed him for wearing just his socks.Father Mark Scannell, who lives in Longridge Way, Worle, said the teacher should be severely reprimanded. He said: "When I heard what happened I just couldn't believe it. His shoes are there to protect his feet."He couldn't even go to the toilet as there was urine on the floor and he could have cut himself walking in just his socks."He is a child, not an adult and children can be really cruel at that age, so no wonder he's embarrassed about the situation and didn't want to go back to school."Headteacher Andy Russell said: "We have a simple uniform that children stick to involving wearing black shoes."If they don't wear the right shoes then they are offered black daps. This pupil refused to wear the daps and was isolated."Mr Lake was over zealous and made him remove his trainers. I have spoken to the parents and Mr Lake and told him he has gone over the top."Mr Lake has also written a letter of apology to the parents.
