AN AWARDS ceremony to recognise the best retailers, hoteliers and community achievers in Weston has been cancelled because of a lack of entrants.Last year there was stiff competition to win one of 13 prizes handed out as part of the Weston Super Awards, organised by AGM Holdings, the Weston & Somerset Mercury, Business West, Weston Tourism and North Somerset and Weston town councils.However, apathy amongst the town's businesses has meant organisers have been forced to cancel the awards ceremony this year.There were three award categories - Community Champions, Business Awards and Ambassador Awards.Weston Tourism plans to take over the Ambassador Awards for best holiday accommodation, travellers' choice, town centre retailer of the year, top leisure attraction and tastiest food in town.Weston Town Council also plans to run the community awards for top teacher, young achiever, community champion and the Locking trophy for youth services.Everyone who has entered so far is being contacted.
