A LEISURE and wildlife park in Burnham has been voted one of the country's most cherished parks in a public poll.

Apex leisure and wildlife park has been ranked at number seven in the UK’s top ten favourite parks, in the people’s choice award public poll.

Councillor John Swayne said: “This award is testament to all the hard work Sedgemoor District Council, along with the friends of Apex Park, put into keeping the park spic and span for its residents and visitors.”

All Green Flag award-winning parks and green spaces were entered into the annual poll, which saw thousands of people voting for their favourite green space. Apex Park received hundreds of votes from local residents and visitors.

Sedgemoor District Council’s clean surroundings section cleans the park daily; cuts the grass; maintains the wild flower meadow and checks and maintains the play equipment.

Paul Todd, Green Flag award scheme manager, said: “Congratulations to Apex Park for being one of the UK’s favourite parks, proof that the park has a special place in the heart of its community.”

Over 13,000 votes where received this year with a diverse range of sites featuring in the top ten, from traditional parks and country parks to university campuses and cemeteries.
