The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) held a sandcastle competition as well as an exhibition from local architects.

The event was held to coincide with Weston Air Day, and often saw roaring jet planes and military helicopters screaming overhead while competitors built their structures in the sand.

Weston mayor Cllr Keith Morris also visited the competition and handed over the Weston Open prize to Andy Bourne of Richard Pedlar Architects.
