AN ARMY cadet group which has had a tough year has applied for £4,000 to help it get back on the road to recovery. The Worle platoon of the Somerset Army Cadets was forced to move out of its base in the grounds used by Worle Football Club in Midhaven Rise after a series of vandalism attacks. But to make matters worse, the minibus used to take the cadets on trips had to be towed away after it was also vandalised. The cadets, who currently meet in the skittle alley of the Old Manor Inn in Cornwallis Avenue, have been raising money to replace their minibus. An application for funds has also been made to Weston Town Council. The cadet group's Sergeant Major Paul Zeigler said: "In March I went on a trip to Borneo to learn survival techniques. "I parked the minibus in a street near our home and, when I got back, I found that kids had smashed a window and wrecked it. It had become a fire hazard so it was scrapped."It was such a kick in the teeth. It's been a nightmare six months."The kids have raised £1,000 and we hope to have a summer ball to raise money too."I'm still waiting to hear from the town council whether our application for money has been successful.
