ILLEGALLY-modified cars and speeding motorists were snared in a special police operation over the bank holiday weekend.

A car was seized after its driver was found not to have insurance, one person was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and another motorist issued a probation order for illegal tyres after police found up to 200 motorists in Cheddar Gorge on Sunday.

14 tickets were issued for a range of offences including speeding, not wearing seat belts, faulty headlights and illegal number plates, such as those with the wrong font.

PC Kat Forrest said: “All in all it was a very successful operation that encouraged car enthusiasts to enjoy their hobby in a safe manner and to comply with the law whilst doing so.”

Police said they will continue to run more operations in the summer to tackle antisocial behaviour.
