A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire in Weston last night.

Two crews from the town’s fire station were joined by one crew from Winscombe to tackle the flames at a property in Windwhistle Circle on the Bournville estate just after midnight last night.

They were called to the scene at 12.15am this morning (Wed) to reports of a person trapped inside a first floor flat.

When they arrived they searched the outside of the two-storey building, which is divided into two flats, and found a woman in her 20s by a window but unable to escape.

Firefighters used a ladder to get her to safety and she was treated by paramedics for the effects of smoke inhalation before being taken to hospital as a precaution.

Wearing breathing apparatus, the firefighters extinguished the flames using high-pressure hose reels.

The cause of the fire has been investigated by police and fire officers. A 24-year-old woman has since been arrested on suspicion of arson.
