Arsonists set fire to portable buildings at Weston-super-Mare’s Haywood Village development

Firefighters were called to part of the Haywood Village development in Weston-super-Mare on Sunday night, after portable buildings at the site were deliberately set on fire.

There are 900 homes planned in Haywood Village, with many of them already built.There are 900 homes planned in Haywood Village, with many of them already built.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service was called to the Winterstoke Road end of the development shortly after 8.30pm on Sunday.

Two fire engines from Weston-super-Mare fire station were sent to tackle the fire, and when they arrived they found two porta-cabins were well alight.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels to put the fire out.

A spokesman from the fire service said: “The cause of the fire was deemed to be deliberate and the police have been informed.”
