BRAVE runners tackled the mighty peak of Brent Knoll on Sunday.

Athletes from across the South West gathered at Burnham Association of Sports Clubs (BASC) ground in Stoddens Lane before battling each other in a cross-country over the moors to the summit of The Knoll.

Runners from Weston Athletics Club, Cheddar Running Club, Axe Vale Runners and Nailsea Running Club were among the participants in the Sunday event.

More than 100 people took part and winner Carl Plumpton from Portsmouth Athletics Club came first, completing the 5.5mile course in 37min 31secs.

The run has been held for more than 20 years and originally started life as an event in a summer village fete.
