Attraction to stay all year?

BOSSES behind the Wheel of Weston are seeking permission for the attraction to stay on the seafront all-year-round.
The 40m-high landmark was due to leave town between November and Easter, but operators have applied for planning permission to keep it on the Beach Lawns between December and February.
Bosses at Great City Attractions, the company behind the worldwide wheels, say they want to benefit from the additional custom the Grand Pier reopening is bringing to the seafront.
The wheel was supposed to return in March.
A company spokesman said: “Like many other attractions in the town, we wish to benefit from the additional footfall generated by the pier, for the off-season of this year only.
“It should also be emphasised that at the time of the application there is still a possibility that the wheel will go to another location for the winter months.
“So the variation of a condition is intended to secure the option of trading through the winter months if necessary.”
Last month operators told the Mercury that they would like to bring an even bigger wheel to Weston in the future.
Great City Attractions has already been granted permission to have the current attraction in place between March and November until the end of 2014.
It operates next to the motorcycle parking area and the tourist information centre in Beach Road.
The spokesman added: “The economic impact of the wheel in 2009 has already been confirmed by the council’s destination manager as attracting both new and existing visitors.
“The wheel has contributed to the vitality and viability of the tourist trade, as well as producing spin-offs of benefit to other businesses.”
