Authority seeks advice on benefit cuts

A LOCAL authority will hold a drop-in session for people to raise questions and make comments about proposed changes to council tax.
Sedgemoor District Council will hold the session at The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre in Princess Street, Burnham on Friday from 2-5pm.
The session relates to Government’s abolition of council tax benefit from April 2013, with councils replacing it with their own locally-run service.
The Government is also cutting the money available for the benefit by 10 per cent nationally, leaving the council needing to find £1million in savings.
The meeting is designed to help shape the authority’s future council tax support services, with a public consultation currently running until October 5.
