Avon and Somerset Constabulary are trying to find the man who tried to wrestle the bag from its owner in Marchfields Way, near the KFC fast food outlet.

At about 5.50am, the woman walked from the store’s car park and was crossing over the road towards The Range when a man suddenly approached.

A police spokesman said: “She started walking over the second part of the crossing and looked down momentarily. When she looked up a man was stood in front of her.

“He grabbed at her handbag and muttered something to her as she held on to the bag.

“He then walked off in the direction of KFC because a car was driving towards the crossing. There were three people in the small silver-coloured car.”

Police hope the trio can help with their investigation and are urging them – along with any other witnesses – to come forward.

The suspect was white, about 5ft 7ins and had a slim face. He was clean-shave, had a fair complexion and dark eyes.

Police say he had short dark hair, which was swept to the right.

The suspect was wearing dark trousers and a blue long-sleeved tracksuit top which had two white stripes.

The police spokesman added: “If you are able to help, call 101 quoting reference 5217130779.”
