A fire has broken out at the Tropicana in Weston-super-Mare this evening (Friday).

The blaze has affected Icescape – a winter wonderland attraction offering ice skating and other activities.

Firefighters and police are at the scene.

Avon Fire and Rescue Service dispatched six fire engines to the scene at about 5pm, including a ladder to check the premises was empty.

The Mercury has been told everyone was evacuated from the venue and the fire has now been extinguished.

One person had to be checked over by emergency services for smoke inhalation.

Early indications suggest the fire began in a kitchen.

Its deputy leader Elfan Ap Rees tweeted: “Great shame for Icescape but main building OK.”
