A North Somerset animal sanctuary is hosting an open day this weekend, as it ramps up its efforts to raise money to find a new home.

Avon Owls, in Whitley Head, Banwell will open its doors to the public on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

Guests will be able to get up close and personal with a range of birds of prey at the free-to-enter event, and a team of handlers will be able to provide expert insight.

A spokesman said: “Our volunteers will be on hand throughout the day to talk to visitors about the amazing birds we work with and what we do as the only registered bird of prey rescue charity in the Avon and Somerset area.

“Donations from the open day will support day-to-day operations of the charity as well as help us meet the £50,000 target we need to buy our own plot of land, as we have outgrown our present site.”
