TWO brothers from Cheddar who serve in the armed forces were both given awards for their service in the same week.

Major Darren Hembery, aged 43, of the Corps of Royal Engineers was granted an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours list.

His brother Artificer Quartermaster Sergeant Paul Hembery, aged 32, was given a Commander Land Forces Commendation from the Ministry of Defence.

They both left The Kings Of Wessex Academy in Cheddar when they were 16, and went into the armed forces.

Their father David, who still lives in the village, said: “The hardest bit was being told and not being able to speak about it, but I want to tell the whole world now. I’m very proud of them both.”
