WORK has stopped on rebuilding of the Grand Pier at Weston-super-Mare after weather warnings for the Bristol Channel.
The jack-up barge, which is being used to drive up to 70 piles into the sea bed around the pier will be moved tonight to a safe anchor point nearby until the weather improves.
It follows weather warnings that tomorrow's high tide will coincide with 54 mph winds. The jack-up barge is designed to operate safely at the highest tides in wind speeds up to 50 mph.
It is planned that the barge will return to the pier for work to resume on Saturday morning providing weather conditions allow. The delay will not affect the work schedule as currently piling work is ahead of schedule.
