YOUNG people from Weston and North Somerset will release dozens of balloons into the air as part of national care leavers' week.

The event will take place at 1pm on November 2 at 12 Clifton Road, Weston, and will see balloons tagged with messages from care leavers being released into the sky.

North Somerset Council is supporting the event, and Katie Warren, a young person’s communication worker for the authority and a former care leaver, said: “We want to share our positive experiences and demonstrate to people all the great things we go on to achieve.

“Young people leaving care face so many challenges and they do not always receive the encouragement and praise that they deserve. We wanted to unite young people from care to celebrate our achievements and help put a stop to these attitudes.”

The week runs across the country from October 26 to November 2, and is organised by The National Young People’s Benchmarking Forum to raise the profile of young people in care.
