Competitive villagers were out in force this week, trying their hand at a range of games and enjoying an afternoon of fun in the sun.

Banwell Carnival Olympics was held on Saturday at the recreation ground, with guests taking on a range of challenges in the hope of scoring high and winning prizes.

Classic games like a coconut shy, tin can alley, hoopla and darts were keenly contested, while more quirky challenges like space-hopper basketball kept people on their toes.

The event marked the return of Banwell Carnival, which was once the village’s showpiece event, after several years away.

And despite being a smaller event, without the famous parade through the village, event organiser Peter Shipton was pleased with the outcome.

He said: “I would just like to say thank you to all the people who helped make the Banwell Olympics such a wonderful day.”
