A road in Weston-Super-Mare could be closed for up to six hours today (Friday) after a car crashed into a power line.
The collision took place in Wolvershill Road in Banwell earlier this morning.
The road is closed between Summer Lane and Knightcott Road where power cables have fallen.
Western Power Distribution has confirmed at least four homes are without power and normal traffic conditions are set to return at 4pm.
An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were called at 9.29am to a road traffic collision involving a car and an electricity pole on Wolvershill Road in Banwell.
“Two crews from Weston attended the incident and used a hose reel and CO2 extinguisher to isolate the petrol from the car, before using slick off and an environmental pack to clean the road.
“Crews are liaising with police and Western Power.”
An AA spokesman added: “The road has been closed following the accident where the vehicle involved brought the cables down across the road.
“It is expected to be closed across the afternoon to allow engineers to make the scene safe.”
*UPDATE 4.35pm* Summer Lane and Knightcott Road has now reopened.
